One Piece Shaft/Planet Carrier

All PRO-DIG Gearbox’s utilise the unique “PRO-DIG” single piece shaft arrangement resulting in a robust and durable drilling tool. The gearbox shaft and primary planetary gear carrier are machined from a single billet of high quality alloy steel; this design permits the use of larger diameter taper roller bearings over the traditional shaft/locknut two-piece design. These bearings are also fixed to the front and rear journals of the carrier where as the traditional method utilises the bearings fixed in close proximity to one another to the front of the gear carrier assembly.

The PRO-DIG design offers a much larger distance between the two bearings and thus a larger load deflection.The combination of both larger bearings and the increased deflection rate of the bearings results in a shaft that is a lot more rigid and better supported when compared to the traditional two-piece lock nut design. The result is a more balanced gearbox that can withstand much larger side loads. This is an important factor to consider when selecting a drive, as the most common failure of a drive unit is a broken or damaged shaft due to excessive side loading.
Long Lifetime
The gears are designed and manufactured according to International Standards including ISO (International Standards Organisation) and AGMA (American Gearbox Manufacturers Association). In addition PRO-DIG have adopted the use of a conservative lifetime rating for our gearboxes as opposed to rating the gearbox at its peak rating. This action results in a longer lifetime for the gearbox and giving you the end user much greater value for money.
